Help

What does HonkIP do?

Most homes get an internet address that changes from time to time. HonkIP gives your home a name, like smith.honkip.com, and keeps it pointing at the right address. Type the name anywhere to reach things at home.

How does it know my address?

Your router, a PC at home or a small script tells us whenever the address changes. Set it up once on the Setup page.

Do I need to confirm my name every month?

No. Your free name stays yours as long as your router keeps updating it.

Can I use my own domain?

Yes. Buy one on the Domains page and it works straight away. If you already own one, Plus lets you link it with one record at your domain seller. Use a name like home.yourdomain.com for that. For the bare domain on its own, buy it here or ask us to move it.

I can reach the name but not my camera

The name finds your home. Your router also needs to let the connection through to the camera, usually called port forwarding. Your camera's guide shows which port to open.
